Abstract:
The knowledge of the stress concentrations produced by multiple notches is very important in practical applicaitons since the stress concentrations i the case of a single notch of the same geometry. It is possible, therefore, to improve a design by judiciously decreasing the weight of the part. In this paper a photoelastic solution of the problem is given for 1 ot 5 notches for the case of uniaxial tension parallel to the plate edge. Values are plotted in terms of a parameter (representing the ration of the distance between the centers of the notches to the diameter of the notches) which was varied from zero (one notch) to a value large enough to be considered infinite for all practical purposes.
