Abstract:
Corrosion is often envisioned as rusting or tarnishing. However, corrosion may occur in other forms--cracking or loss of strength or ductility, for example. In general, most types of corrosion occur by an electrochemical mechanism. But corrosion products need not be visible, and weight loss of the parent metal need not be appreciable.
