Abstract:  
The present invention relates to chrmium bearing surfaces for cylinder liners, cylinder bores, shafts or the like. It relates, more particularly, to chromium bearing surfaces of a type which contains lubrican retaining pockets in the form of discrete pits or depressions which are separated by surfaces of hard, dense chromium.
